THE ACHILLES TENDON, is the tendon that runs at the back of the calf and inserts into the back of the heel bone. It is made up of two major muscles and one lesser muscle. The two major muscles are the soleus and gastrocnemius, with a smaller third muscle called the plantaris. These muscles form a common tendon called the Achilles tendon, which joins into the heel bone.

THE ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT is one of the major stabilisers of the knee joint. It really first got known in football circles when Paul Gascoigne ruptured his in the 1991 FA Cup final playing for Tottenham against Nottingham Forest. Other high profile players to have suffered injury to the anterior cruciate, include Alan Shearer when for Blackburn Rovers and Roy Keane playing for Manchester United against Leeds. Recently, Micheal Essien of Chelsea overcame the problem to return to Premier League action.
