Edwin Van der Sar is one of the greatest goalkeepers of his generation. This could have been a lot different if he had stuck to his first football experience of being a centre half!
Van der sar was influenced by his uncle who played that position and it was only natural that a young player goes with what they know. Many players have converted from one position to another. Some make sense, especially as the traits from the position they started playing in can help them in the position the eventually play now.
