Giggs helps Depay focus on secrets of success

Any player who joins Manchester United has to be good. They also have to live up to the legends of past. Ryan Giggs is part of the club's past, present & now future as he guides new signing Depay.

Star signing

Joining Manchester United is big! No matter if you're a young player in the academy or a multi-million pound signing. The history of the club, especially in recent years makes the eyes of the world take note of those who put on the famous red shirt.

Brilliant Depay free-kick for PSV

When the club splashed out in the region of £25million on the Dutch league's hottest property it was seen as another step in the right direction. Memphis Depay was the exciting & powerful winger bought from the then Eredivise champions PSV Eindhoven.

No matter where you've played before or whatever has been won, doing it at Manchester United is different. Years of domination in the  Premier League era means any drop if form or performance is given massive coverage in the media. That's the same for the team but more so for big money signings.

Because of Depay's form for PSV many expected him to tear the league just like a young Ryan Giggs did for many years on the Old Trafford wing. So it makes great sense that the young Dutch man turned to the Welsh legend for some good advice.

The Daily Mail said:

"Memphis Depay admits he has not lived up to his £25million price tag and that Manchester United assistant manager Ryan Giggs has taken a specialist interest in trying to help him.
Depay knows he has to do more as the club fight for Champions League football and the 22-year-old revealed that Giggs regularly works with him."

Of course Giggs has seen it and done. He made his debut before United had even won a Premier League title.

Giggs came into the team with talent and a youthful work ethic which made him become Manchester United's record holder for appearances but also the Premier League's most successful player! Around that time there were big name players who also lent hand at helping the young Giggs settle into life as star name.

Depay is a good player no doubt about it. The only thing now is that the odd goal and bit of skill is not enough to impress the Manchester United fans. Ultimately for the club to get back to where it belongs the will need the young big money signings to really show why they were bought in the first place.

Giggs who may not have had the big money price tag but he had the pressure of comparisons with the great George Best. The major pressure though came from United trying to win the trophies every season. Sir Alex Ferguson drove his players on with almost obvious regard to winning games. He expected a lot from his players and they delivered.

The most important thing Fergie made a young Giggs do

Ryan Giggs reveals the orders of Sir Alex Ferguson & his coaching staff prevented him suffering a common young player problem. This is what set him on his path in becoming the Premier League's most successful ever player.

With Giggs now part of the backroom team every player must take the opportunity to grab 5 minutes with him as he will have one of the best reference points in the game and an opinion that could make the difference.

Many Manchester United players who came through the ranks have all said that he was a massive influence with how they progressed at the club.

Honeymoon period

If Depay hadn't had such a magnificent season at PSV he wouldn't be under as much media pressure as he is. Every mistake, bad touch or head bow is jumped upon. Top players get over slumps and he is a TOP player. The whole situation is made worse by Manchester United's standing since Sir Alex left but it's true to say the honeymoon period for Depay was short.

The fact he has spoken to Giggs is brilliant because it would be easy for a player to clam up and hide. It should only be a matter of time before the Dutchman consistently produces what he is definitely capable of hopefully giving Old Trafford a new No.7 to idolise. EXCLUSIVE GIGGS INTERVIEW COMING SOON.....

Got something to say?
