Wales success is no surprise to them

Wales 3 - 1 Belgium looks fantastic. That scoreline & whatever else happens at Euro 2016 is just the beginning, Welsh football is on a mission.......

Football has a special way of making the unpredictable, predictable. Wales were on a high but many thought an encounter with the 2nd best team in the world would just be too much.

In qualification to Euro 2016 Wales drew & beat Belgium but tournament football is different.
Belgium it seemed were just finding their form and the pundits were predicting an Eden Hazard led assault for the European Championship crown.

Why Bale could be the greatest ever

Wales star Chris Gunter explains how Gareth Bale is set to become their greatest ever player.....

Of course, when you mention Wales, you have to mention the fact they have the world’s most expensive player in Real Madrid star Gareth Bale. Add to this, Arsenal’s classy midfielder Aaron Ramsey and you’d be thinking it is all about those two.

Wales captain Ashley Williams scores equaliser against Belgium at Euro 2016

However, those who have watched the Welsh right up to & through the Euros will know they are a TEAM of individuals who play with understanding & responsibility. Every player has a role in the team’s function.

In this quarterfinal encounter Belgium took the lead through a Radja Nainggola wonder strike but even then you could feel a sense of calm within the Welsh team. There was no panic, no rush and no worry. They just continued to their game plan carrying out coach Chris Coleman’s tactics perfectly.

Wales actually had more possession than Belgium showing that for all the ‘togetherness’ & effort, they are a footballing team.

Yes, the defeat to England doesn’t sit well with Coleman who thought that maybe the occasion made them lose focus on the ‘masterplan’. But hey, they are now in the semi final after goals from captain Ashley Williams, Hal Robson-Kanu & Sam Vokes of Premier League new boys Burnley.

Sam Vokes scores with a header

The achievement for Wales is an incredible one after 50 plus years of not featuring at a major competition but they won't new getting too carried away with it all. History has another chapter for them to write as the face Ronaldo’s Portugal in the semi-final.

Whatever happens, they have truly put Wales on the map as footballing nation & an association that has built a platform to introduce new players into a system that is proving itself on the elite stage. They are not being cocky when they say it's not a true surprise because they have set targets, understanding what is needed to be done to hit those targets.
